The Companion Care Assistant (CCA) Certificate program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to develop the knowledge, abilities and professional attitude necessary to function effectively in a client companion support role. Under the direction and supervision of clients, families, supervisors and/or other members of the inter-professional service team,. CCAs provide person-centered client support services aimed at promoting and maintaining client independence and improving quality of life.

SE Career College aims to provide a new generation of passionate caregivers with the skills they need to help our again population. Graduates of this certificate program will have the opportunity to make a big impact in society.

Not sure what a CCA does? The roles and responsibilities of a CCA can vary dependent upon work place setting, some examples may include;

  • Transportation assistance to the grocery store, doctor’s appointments, or other errands;
  • Assistance with planning, scheduling and keeping appointments;
  • Encouraging and planning social activities;
  • Support exercise routine (may include short walks in the neighborhood);
  • Planning and preparing meals
  • Preparing special meals/diets;
  • Completing general housekeeping and laundry;
  • Client sitting (close monitoring);
  • Caregiver relief/respite care;
  • General companionship and social interaction;
  • Providing entertainment with hobbies, games, etc.;
  • Interact with family members to keep them abreast of their loved one’s condition;
  • Promoting a safe environment & recognizing/reporting potential hazards

The CCA course is 100 hours total, offered full-time over a 3 week period or part-time over a 10 week period.
